Our standards
MenaDB follows the Byesar Ethical Content Standard, shared by every Byesar project.
What this means for MenaDB
- We report published claims; we do not certify. Where a body has certified something, we show who certified it, the certificate number, the date it is valid until, and a link to the source.
- Every record carries its source, who it is attributed to, the date we checked it, and an expiry. Expired records are taken off the site, not left standing.
- Every record can be reported as wrong, expired or fraudulent.
- Automated tools gather records, and each one shows its source so anyone can check it. Reports of errors are reviewed by a person.
- On MenaDB we do not list music or concerts, and we show no photographs of people or animals.
- For finance we describe the structure and name the Shariah board. We never label a product “halal” ourselves.
- We do not claim to be the first, or the only, at anything.
What it rests on
- The Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah.
- Mainstream Islamic scholarship and recognised scholarly bodies. Scholars sometimes differ, and where they do we say so rather than choose for you.
- We do not issue rulings. If you have a concern about a record, use its report button.
What this is not
MenaDB records published claims; it is not a certifier. The standard is not a ruling. It records which published rulings we have chosen to follow in our own work, and it does not rule on what is permissible for anyone else. Some points are still waiting for a scholar to confirm them, and we do not build on those until they do.
