About MenaDB
A reference record of who funds, permits and programmes work across the region — built to be correct in two years, not just today.
What this is
Every listing of this kind in the region goes stale. We hold a festival submission deadline from January 2020 that is still published on a live site today. People plan budgets and travel around figures like that.
MenaDB exists to be the version that is still right later. The database will not let us publish a figure without naming the page it came from and the date somebody read it, and it re-checks those pages on a schedule. Being correct is the product; everything else is how it is delivered.
How a record is checked
Not every fact carries the same weight, so the bar scales with the consequence. Each record says on its own page which of these it is.
- Listed6786 records
- We know this exists and where to find it, and when we last saw it live. We have not read its terms.
- Read at source9 records
- Amounts, rates, eligibility and deadlines, read from the issuing body's own page, with the sentence that proves each one and the date it was read.
A figure someone could budget against cannot be published at the lower bar. That is enforced by the database, not by anyone remembering.
Where we harvest
From the issuing body, never from another directory. Partly because a commission’s own page is right and a copy of it is six months old, and partly because substantial extraction from someone else’s database is protected in several jurisdictions whether or not the contents are facts.
We quote each source only as far as its terms allow. Where we may not republish the wording, you get the link and the date instead — and we still hold the sentence that proves the figure, so a correction takes seconds.
What we will never list
Each sector carries its own line, because the line differs in each. Nothing against these standards is published or promoted anywhere on the site, and a record that breaches one is taken down by the database rather than left to a review queue. The plain-English version is on What we list.
Corrections
If we are wrong about you or your organisation, tell us and we will fix it and show the date we did. It goes into the same review queue as everything else, so it reaches a person rather than an inbox.
What we hold about you
Almost nothing, and nothing you have not chosen. There is no account to browse the directory, no advertising, and no data sold or shared.
Two things are kept on your own device and never leave it: the sector you focus the site to, and your answer to the analytics question. Both are in this browser’s local storage, not in a cookie sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes them.
If you say yes to counting visits, Google Analytics loads and records page views with your IP address shortened. If you say no — or if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, which we honour without asking — nothing Google-owned is ever fetched. We ask for no advertising storage and build no profile.
Write to us and we hold your email only to reply. Subscribe to deadline alerts and we hold the address and the countries you chose, until you unsubscribe.
